I have joined an online group of workshops in art journalling called 21 Secrets. It is a collection of workshops by 21 different artists giving techniques for art journalling and is really fun. I've been really enjoying playing with colours, textures, paints, collage, words and poetry with reckless abandon. Here are some of my pages so far.
Inspired by a poem by Edward Lear called Calico Pie- (you know, the guy who wrote the owl and the pussycat)
Calico pie the little birds fly,
Down to the calico tree.
Their wings were blue,
They sang "Tilly-Loo",
Til away they flew.
And they never came back to me.
These pages seemed to take ages to come together but in the end I was really happy with them. There are many layers of glazes and paint to get the depth in the trees and a bit of collage. The children were from an old Enid Blyton book and the wolf behind the tree was cut from an old french reader I've got. I also used the french reader to come up with the text by cutting phrases out of the book and putting them back together as a conversation. The title is Plaisirs et Distractions which means Pleasures and Attractions, as in sight seeing attractions. The poem about the children came after I had finished the artwork and was trying to work out some text to go with it. I went and watched one of the workshops in 21 secrets about poetry by a gorgeous girl, Natasha Reilly, which helped to inspire the poem.
